One of the good things about owning a Charlottesville horse farm is the easy accessibility it provides – both to the pastoral grandeur of Virginia’s Hunt Country and the sophisticated tastes of Charlottesville. The city has a long equestrian tradition, as evinced by the presence of the more than a few Charlottesville horse farms in the area.

The most prominent equestrian event of Charlottesville Real Estate owners is the Foxfield Races, held on the last Saturday in April and on the last Sunday in September. Also a social event, the steeplechase races usually attract crowds of 18,000 to 23,000 people. The Fall Race Meet is also Family Day and there are horse-oriented activities for the children when no races are running.

More equestrian events, including the Virginia Gold Cup, foxhunts and horse shows, are minutes away in Virginia Hunt Country Real Estate further north. If you’d simply like to enjoy the outdoors from the back of a horse, there are equestrian trails aplenty in and around the city.

Communing with Mother Nature is easy to do in Charlottesville. The city maintains hundreds of acres of parkland, including the 980-acre Ragged Mountain Natural Area just outside the city (which, unfortunately, doesn’t allow horseback riding). For even better views, head to the Shenandoah National Park and the wonderfully scenic Skyline Drive.
